"Certain disorders of the human body — some far-removed from the teeth and mouth — have traditionally been treated, primarily, as "medical" problems by family physicians and specialists in the field of medicine.

Now, though, in 2017, there is a growing number of dentists who have taken post-graduate training in order to assist physicians in a wide variety of ways for the "dental" treatment of various aspects of the following disorders that were previously reserved for care by those in the field of medicine.

By virtue of their post-grad training, both Dr. Mike and Dr. Chris have the expertise to participate in what's become recognized as dentistry's vital role in the management of the following disorders:

---Sleep Breathing Disorders (Sleep Apnea)

---Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD/TMJ)

---Eating Disorders (GERD, Acid Reflux, Heartburn)

---Breathing Disorders (COPD)

"Initial Diagnosis" is key to the recognition of the possibility that dental procedures might be appropriate during the treatment of these disorders. Having open communication with the patient's physician is also critical to having "dental treatment" be accepted as a component of care ultimately prescribed for the patient.

In this regard, Dr. Mike's and Dr. Chris' patients find their New Patient Exams to be extra-thorough, perhaps involving the patient's completion of extra-paperwork and diagnostic tests, in the event that some of the aforementioned disorders are discovered as being in need of attention and treatment.

Rest assured, when you become a patient of Nelson Family Dental Group, if it's appropriate to have a collaboration of care between your physician and our office, that recommendation will be carefully and thoroughly explained."

Thank you Dr. Leon!  Also, be sure to check-out Dr. Mike's group "Plant Empowered Redding" which meets regularly to discuss how food can influence your health (and taste amazing, too!).
